Cyto-Embryological Analysis of Wild Kentucky Bluegrass Germplasm in Gansu Province, China

Reproduction studies, particularly embryology, represent basic information of any plant. However, the current embryological is fragmentary for Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.). Here, paraffin sections were used to examine cyto-embryological characteristics, including microsporogenesis, microgametogenesis, megasporogenesis, megagametogenesis, and apomixis, wild germplasm from Gannan (GN) Longnan (LN) in Gansu Province. The study found no significant differences pollen diameter, viability, stigma receptivity between two materials. consisted three anthers, each contained four sacs that divided into left right halves. After meiosis, microspore mother cells formed dyads tetrads, which primarily symmetrical underwent mitosis form three-celled pollen. has a one-locular ovary, two-feathery stigmas, thick nucleolar anatropous ovules, typical polygonum embryo sac as its reproductive organs. main type apomixis observed was apospory, resulting coexistence multiple sacs. Polyembryonic seeds frequently due apospory. Most importantly, our research apospory caused early embryogenesis during fertilization, vital feature identifying sexual reproduction bluegrass. Sexual followed strict double while complete seed only through pseudogamy. These characteristics are documented here, their can aid understanding evolution
